On Wednesday 12th June, Lia & Molly from Ladybug House delivered a P.D on Social Stories to our team.
A Social Story describes a situation, skill, or concept in terms of relevant social cues, perspectives and common responses in a specifically defined style and format. This approach has proven to be successful with children with social and communication delays and differences, as well as individuals developing normally.
Staff have been busy creating individual and group social stories that have benefited the children in their environment.
This morning our Pre-Kinder & Kinder children participated in a Kinder Dreaming with Western Creation (Dance & Didgeridoo) Incursion from Cultural Infusion.
This interactive incursion was a fantastic introduction to Aboriginal cultures of Australia. The talented presenter, Tristan engaged the whole room by the use of his Didgeridoo, dance, games and story telling elements.
This morning the Kindergarten children went on an excursion to the local IGA in Airport West. This excursion was planned as an extension of their supermarket dramatic play space. The children decided that they wanted to make their own pizza for lunch, so they made a shopping list and bought all the ingredients for their experience. .................. Getting out and about into the community is not only an exciting change of scene from the centre, but it also provides a variety of benefits for the children. Some of these benefits are:
:: Awareness of road safety
:: Children understanding that they belong to a wider community
:: Opportunities to expand and enhance children’s experiences
The kindergarten children took part in the community outreach program at St.Christopher’s p.s for the second time this year. The children were introduced to the music room, art room and participated in some organised activities which the Year 6 children organised. The children enjoyed their time with their buddies and can’t wait to meet up with them again.
